It is with a heavy heart that we share with you the loss of our colleague and mentor, Arnold Kingbird. Arnold spent much time with our students throughout the district, sharing his love for the students and for Anishinaabe language and culture.
We celebrated his gifts during a drum circle today at the middle school, and students drummed, sang, and danced to honor his love for them.
Arnold's funeral will be held Friday (tomorrow) in Ponemah at the Boys and Girls Club. To allow time to honor our mentor, Red Lake Schools will be dismissing early according to the following schedule tomorrow, Friday, March 24:
- Red Lake Secondary Complex will dismiss at 1:00PM.
- Red Lake Elementary Complex and Ponemah School will dismiss at 1:15PM.
If you have any questions, please contact your student's respective school's secretary.
We would like to invite parents to answer this survey regarding what you would like to see taught about Red Lake History & Culture in school! Please complete the 1-question survey linked here: https://forms.office.com/r/784jQzqS3J

Earlier this month, the RLEC Robotics Team attended competition. 42 teams competed, with the top 22 teams making it to qualifiers, while the rest of the teams were placed into a second chance competition.
We placed 1st,4th and 8th in the second chance competition. Not all tournaments have the second chance event, but it was nice for teams like ours that are newer to robotics to have the chance to compete again. Adam and cash got 1st place in the second chance team event! Everyone did a great job!

Reminder that RLEC will have an early release for students at 1:15pm on Thursday, February 23rd, due to conferences at the Secondary Complex. Miigwech!

Enjoy your day off today! We’ll see you back at school tomorrow!

Red Lake School District has decided that we will be running two hours late this morning to give plows the time they need to clear the roads and get them well salted. All students will have a 2-hour late start today, February 15, 2023. Miigwech!
Check out Ms. Follis’ fifth graders working on getting a bingo, challenging them to get a blackout, on their Make-Tac-Toe using wooden blocks in makerspace!
Once they got a blackout, signed off by a teacher, they got to become a teacher and sign off their classmates squares.

RLEC after school activities are canceled tonight, February 8th, due to lack of water pressure in the building.
Recently, Governor Walz, took time to recognize the Paraprofessionals in our Minnesota school districts. We are thankful EVERY DAY for our Paraprofessionals. Every adult who works at the Elementary has an essential role in supporting the students’ education. As Paraprofessionals, they work miracles. They help students find their calm. They help them learn when they struggle. They help them open milk and other food containers. They clean up after their messes (diapers too!). They support the teaching staff prepare for the days whether it is making photocopies, cleaning up the room, preparing folders, and helping students find their way to receive services. Anyone who works closely with Paraprofessionals knows that when they are unable to be at work, we are lost without them.
To the Red Lake Elementary Paraprofessionals – chi miigwech for being there for our students and staff!
