Thoughts with Superintendent Tim Lutz

Good Afternoon,

Over the last few days, we have experienced some student fights taking place at the Red Lake Secondary Complex.  On Wednesday, three student fights occurred, and on Thursday one more fight took place. I want you to know that the education, safety and wellbeing of students and staff are our utmost priorities. Therefore, because of these fights, we are increasing our presence of security in the secondary complex.

Due to these fights, rumors of additional violence and threats are circulating within our community and on social media.  These rumors are only rumors, but we take all rumors seriously.  As a result, we will maintain Restricted Movement in the secondary complex starting today.  We will also begin searching all backpacks as students come to school.  Additionally, we are working with Red Lake Police and local FBI to provide enhanced security measures both outside and inside our schools.

To summarize, we believe that school is a safe place to learn and work.  To ensure this safety, we will be increasing our security and law enforcement presence in order to ensure students and staff continue to remain safe in our schools.

As always, I value the work we all do together, and I believe in being transparent.  I ask that if you hear about any safety concerns, you notify our security team or an administrator immediately.

Tim Lutz
